Learn Basic Environmental Math, Part A
Course Objective: The objective of this course is for students to begin learning the basic environmental math skills necessary for everyday commonplace activities at water and wastewater treatment plants. It covers only part of the typically encountered environmental calculations and should be taken in conjunction with Part B in order to learn basic environmental math skills. |

| Course
Contents: Virtual lectures and
hands-on activities are set up in a series of three assignments to enable students to learn principles including (1)
Calculations and conversions; (2) Significant figures and rounding;
and (3) Effects of density on calculations. This course is
intended to be taken as the first part of two-part series, with
Part B covering concentrations, loadings, and averaging; determining removal rates and treatment
efficiencies; using
proportions and ratios; and logarithmic calculations.
Math is cool! And, you will be surprised how much you enjoy crunching numbers while taking this course. Students will be provided with step-by-step detailed explanations and actual math examples to help demonstrate the principles. And, students will execute a series of calculations to ensure their mastery of the basic environmental math skills. |
