| Specification | State Requirements |
| Training requirements for WTP and WWTP operators | As of 2000: You must earn 1 CEU for a grade I or II certificate and 2 CEUs for a grade III or IV certificate. CEUs must be earned during the two year period beginning April 1 and ending March 31 of every odd numbered year. |
| Coursework approval | As of 2000: CECs must be approved by an accredited college, university, technical institute, issuing agency or DNR. Continuing education credit must be related to the subject matter of the certificate to which the credit is being applied. |

| Certificate of course completion | As of 2000: Course sponsors are required to report the names and social security numbers of those attending training sessions. |
